I’m looking for ideas from parents with similar issues to mine OR experience that you yourself had as a child learning to read and what you think of reading now, as an adult. My son is almost 8 years old (2nd Grade) and is not reading at his grade level and claims he “doesn’t like reading”. When I practice with him (almost every day) he is obviously uncomfortable and guesses at the words before begrudgingly attempting to sound them out. We have read to him since he was a baby, I love to read and do so in front of him and he has access to many books both at his reading level and above/below. His writing is at grade level and he has not shown any signs of learning challenges/disabilities. In all his other subjects, he is at, or above, his grade level and he seems to enjoy learning and school, especially math. I am worried he will not learn to read properly and go on to develop a serious dislike for reading and then he will not benefit from all the ways a solid ability to read is helpful in life. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks :) via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2JITGch
