Advice on hacking chain restaurant menus for healthy kid options?

I just spent a week visiting my inlaws and they're big on chain restaurants, where all the kids menus are variations of chicken fingers, burgers, etc. with french fries, the option for chocolate milk and always a dessert, for some ungodly reason. In our normal lives the "worst" thing my son (3) eats are maybe Harvest Snap peas and sweetened yogurt, and when we eat out, it's at restaurants that prepare real food from scratch, etc. so there's typically something available on request or to sample from our plates.I don't intend this as dietary grandstanding or whatever, just wondering if there are some restaurants better than others for toddler/young child offerings? Any way to hack menus to get something nourishing for a kid they might actually eat once it reaches their plate without costing a fortune? Best I found was going bite for bite on medicore frozen vegetables + a fry with him. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2sXiXdb
