My 13mo will undergo major surgery this week, I came here for some advice

Long story short, my 13 month old daughter will have half a kidney removed because it's causing issues. They discovered this after a month of her getting ill, getting better on antibiotics and immediately getting ill again after she stopped having them.It turns out that both her kidneys are split in two parts, with two ureters per kidney instead of one. This is surprisingly common but sometimes leads to complications. In her case one half kidney and ureter doesn't function. It's causing infections and she's been on antibiotics ever since. So this week the big surgery is planned. It'll take up to three hours and afterwards she'll be heavily sedated. I think I remember them telling us that they'll keep her lower body paralyzed for a few days. All in all she'll probably spend around 10-14 days in the hospital.Have any of you been in a similar situation? Is there any advice any of you could give me on what to expect and how to handle things? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2tLBjeO
