Memory problems at 12

My son has been getting worse grades starting at grade 5. We got him tutoring but it didn't seem to help. The problem is a lot of the time he doesn't remember that he has homework, or he does his homework and forgets to turn it in, or doesn't remember to bring home the materials / books he needs to do his homework. They went to chromebooks in 6th grade and they took down the blog which used to have the homework assignments so we could check to see if he had any. They had an app on the chromebook that listed assignments but it wasn't always updated and it didn't list long term assignments like big projects. My son is going into 7th grade and as he gets older the demands for him to be self sufficient are just going to get bigger. My husband thinks he isn't trying hard enough and doesn't take school seriously because he can remember all the Pokémon and other things that he is interested in. I worry that it is something wrong with his brain because he seems genuinely upset when he forgets something.I scheduled an appointment with a neuropsychologist which is 3 appointments. The first is a 1 hour meeting where we bring a questionnaire and all his report cards from his whole school career. The second is a long meeting for his testing and the third is the results.I'm hoping we get answers from this testing but I wonder, has anyone experienced something like this before? Am I taking it too far (like my husband thinks) by getting him all this testing? Thanks in advance! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2ta88VH
