My son is 22 months old and his best friend is our little dog. He is amazingly gentle and sweet with her and they are always together. This evening I was wearing him on my back and walking her up the hill from my house. Suddenly a neighbor's loose, large dog ripped her away from the leash (pulled the collar right off) and was rolling her around on the ground while she was shrieking. I was screaming at the dog to stop and finally she let her go. I picked up my dog who was shaking and confronted the owner. As I was talking to him, holding my dog, my son reached his arm over and began petting her. He kept his hand on her as I walked home, holding her in my arms. When I took him out of the carrier and went to examine her he went running over and gently pet her so carefully. He was very serious and seemed extremely concerned.Let me mention that my son doesn't talk much. His receptive language is great and he communicates just fine but he doesn't use many words. At the moment he's relaxing and seems to be back to his normal self but I find myself wondering if I should have handled it differently. I wasn't really thinking about how he was feeling I just wanted to get her home to check her. I had absolutely no idea that he was tracking that much but I have no doubt that he saw the dog attack and was worried.Should I explain what happened to him and how do I do that? Should I just let it go or can I help him make sense of it somehow? He seems fine now but those events were so out of our ordinary I wonder if he needs some more information and if so how can I get it to him. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2nDFeH1
