Oral/speech delay in toddler

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this. My son's 17 months old and his motor skills are fantastic, he's been fully walking since he was 1 and we've been told he's ahead of the curve in this area. However he's still not talking at all he does sometimes make some 'letter' sounds (like 'buh' and 'mum') but not a lot. He does make some monotonous noises like 'mmmmmmm' and 'eeeeee' quite a lot though! We also really struggle to get him to eat, he only eats 2-3 different foods and nothing else - he's only just started liking some finger foods but even that's every restricted. His pediatrician has classed it as an oral delay - i.e. both speech and eating. We were concerned about autism initially because he wouldn't engage with us much previously and had limited eye contact, but in the last few months this has changed a lot and I think previously it was simply down to him being a bit ignorant and in his own world :)Now interestingly I had similar problems as a child - I didn't talk 'til I was 2 and I'm still a really, really fussy eater. I wonder if these sort of issues/traits can be passed down to kids?Would love to know if anyone has any tips on how to help, especially with talking :) via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2oxBAmg
