He is 8 and didn't start reading until last year, but now he reads everything! I had a textbook for my american history class and he just picked it up and started asking questions. He is hypersensitive to sound and textures. But now (instead of a fit) he will ask for his headphones when it gets loud at school and has been trying realllly hard to eat things that are new. Although, I did have to bribe him a dollar to try lima beans and asparagus. He is finally recognizing social boundaries. He's still struggling with picking up emotions and body language of others. But when he does, it's adorable. A girl at school was sad (she was sitting alone at recess). My sweet kid asked her if he could sit with her because he "didn't want her to feel lonely." Before, he wouldn't have picked up on it. He would have ignored it or gotten too close to her face or asked her a million questions. But he just sat with her and let her talk.He is aware of his choices and finally gaining some independence. He's putting his dishes up and his laundry in the basket. He wants to grow his hair out and finally told me he hates wearing shorts and sandles. He told me he wants to make video games for kids like him. The most important thing is that he talks to me now. He found his voice. And I'm so proud. We are still struggling with some things. Mostly things like tying his shoes or riding a bike or washing his hair when he showers. He still gets overwhelmed and fits happen. But god, if you had met him a year ago you may not recognize him. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2ngpyxu
