At what age would you give your child slightly more independence in the bath?

And I mean slightly! I have a 21 month old who is pretty "good" in the bath. I wouldn't leave him alone yet or take my eyes off him for long. Tonight I backed up to 2 meters away and dried my hair while watching him the whole time. I am pretty wary about water safety, or so I thought, and I felt safe about this. I didn't take my eyes off him. Anyway, my SO heard the hair dryer and came in to see if the boy was still in the bath and almost had a fit. I explained that I was right there with my eyes glued on him the whole time but he told me to never do this again.Did I jeopardize my son's safety? The chances of drowning seem nonexistant. (To me, at least). At the very worse, he could have fallen backwards and gone under for a second before i'd be scooping him right out, and even that seems unlikely to me as he understands he must sit in the bath, and any weird fidgeting or movements would have had me investigating closer. I mean, this is not the end of the world as I don't need to dry my hair while my son's in the bath. I was just a bit upset by the exchange I had with my SO. It's not like I left him in the bath and left to answer the phone or anything like that! Am I taking this too lightly? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2oD9Ut4
