This is a followup from the posts: http://ift.tt/2ekptnl and http://ift.tt/2fOtDob week I did take my son to the female pediatrician. Everything went OK. After my husband and I had talks with him about that it was OK for a woman to see a male's private parts in the right circumstance (medical, caregiving, etc.) he had no objection to having a full exam by her. Before our talks he had the impression that women should not see men "down there". After all, there are separate bathrooms and shower rooms for men and women. He seems now to fully understand that gender is less important than circumstance. In most circumstances it is inappropriate to be naked in front of people of either gender. For example, if his math teacher wants him to drop his drawers, that is inappropriate regardless of gender. But for caregiving and medical situations it can be appropriate regardless of gender.Since he will go through life occasionally being seen by women nurses and doctors I thought that it would be best to get used to the idea when the doctor was one he knew from previous exams and really liked. From what I was told both by the doctor and my son, he was as comfortable as one could be in a medical exam (thinking about the flu shot to come after the exam was the worst part). She checked him for a hernia. He asked her about testicular exams - she examined him and told him about self exams. They discussed problems of puberty, from complexion to wet dreams; and the fact that one of his testicles hung lower than the other (normal)Before the appointment the doctor's office had asked about what GP he would want to see in the future. He wants to see the same doctor (female) that my husband and I see. (this was his last exam by the pediatrician. So, at the end of the appointment he had a chance to talk to her (the GP) and likes her. (both the GP and the pediatrician are in the same group). So everything worked out well. My son does seem to be "gender neutral" when it comes to medical matters. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2epcaxt
