Christening gifts from a new godparent who has no idea about kids!!

I have ideas mainly from what I got for gifts, but they are quite expensive and we agree that they are cool but my ex (he is the Godfather - i'm just the helper) is hesitant because he doesn't want them to be unwanted. But he has NO IDEA what to get.
