I'm German, my husband is French and we recently moved to a Spanish-speaking country, but have lived in Germany until then. We have a one year old and another one on the way.We wanted to raise our child bilingually, so before moving our plan was for my husband to always speak French with our child and then later on enroll her in bilingual schools. Now after moving we decided to raise them trilingually instead. They are going to learn Spanish from their surroundings, French from their father and German from me.My issue now is that I'm not sure what version of my language I should speak with them. I speak a dialect of German that is quite different to regular Standard German (which I can also speak). I was using the dialect so far because I just assumed they would be raised like me, speaking the dialect from day to day and then learning the proper version through school and the media. Now without the German surroundings I'm worried that if I teach them the dialect they won't properly learn the standard version (there are no German-Spanish bilingual schools where we live). They would definitely need to know that if the ever wanted to work with German or live in Germany. Though the dialect has the sentimental value to me and I would be a bit sad if I didn't pass that on to my kids. What would you recommend? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2en7azG
