Son(9) tells us he's being bullied, but when we investigate, all signs point to him being the bully.

My son is 9, and generally is a sweet as can be, with normal moments of child behavior. He has been diagnosed and is being treated for A.D.D. and has responded well to treatment. We have recently moved and while things were a bit chaotic(we also had a death in the family immediately after moving) things settled down and we resumed life.In the past two weeks, we have received several calls and messages from his bus driver about how he has been moved several times because he is treating the children around him harshly and this Monday she told me that he threatened to punch a kindergartner. When questioned about these things, he states that the other children are saying mean things to him and that he either didn't do it or he is saying things back because of what they have said to him.His excuse for the punching allegation was that the other little boy was the one telling him that he was going to get his mother to punch my son.His story changes a lot, and we have had some issues with lying lately, so it's hard to believe anything he says as the truth. Especially when everyone else's stories contradict his.Today I received a message from his teacher stating that my son had pushed another child at breakfast and had caused that child to fall backwards into another student, causing that child to drop his tray, making a mess.I messaged his teacher back saying that we had been having some behavioral issues and had had several talks with our son about personal responsibility, keeping our hands to ourselves and about the power of our words, and remembering that just because someone else says something hurtful to us, it doesn't mean we need to respond. We've talked to him about how his actions effect others, we've talked and talked and talked. We've talked about consequences and how some have the ability to follow us around long after our actions. We've taken things away, we've grounded, and those sorts of things only seem to fuel his behavior.I'm not sure what to do. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2E4UBnn

18 year old son has over 600k in bitcoin(when they were worth 15k)

So had to make a throw away account because my son knows my real account. On the crapper right now and I have to go to work in an hour so I'll have to make this short. I'll probably go into more detail in the crypto sub tomorrow.Got a call a bit ago from a friend who does our taxes. He's really professional but also a close family friend that has been like an uncle to my son all his life. He called to tell me my son emailed him last night not sure what to do with the money he has made since he was 10.Back story to make things quick. When my son was little, I would always explain how money is handles and how trading works. Every month I would give him $50 to play with in the stock market. I would help him when he first started off only buying apple and dow stock and then let him trade on his own after he seemed to have a basic understanding. Rules were, if he makes any profit that month, he can keep it but the base amount has to be kept there until he's older. He would do an okay job, once got $300 from just the 50 I gave him that month in profit. I felt a bit disappointed at first as to how he would always take the money he earned out instead of reinvesting it but now I couldn't be more proud, and or worried.Looks like my son got into the bitcoin community early and had been buying bitcoin with his profits but looks like he was doing some other things to make money to buy more bit coin as well and I just hope it was legal. My friend said my son wanted to have a private conversation with him before telling me about the amount of money he has been saving. Looks like he made a good majority trading and starting early so I feel a bit better knowing that. I knew he had bitcoins but he o ly told me about it when it was starting to be all over the news and thought me how they work. He has physical coins with the keys and wallets on them so he's been saving them and not linking them to his identity. My friend explained how my son is intimidated of telling me and my wife about the money, mostly my wife. She likes to brag and her side of the family is a bunch of moochers. He's also afraid of how to report it now that he's going to do his taxes for the first time. How can I best help my son feel safe with his money and what would be the best tips to give him on what he should spend the money on to build credit and put downpaymets on anything should he decide to cash out. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2GyGbdz

Advice getting newborn to sleep in bassinet

Our newborn always cries within 30 seconds of being placed in her bassinet. We tried putting her in there while she was sleep but she somehow realizes that she is no longer being held and wakes up crying all within 30 seconds or so. Since she has been home from the hospital, she has never not slept on top of mom's chest. This is obviously not sustainable or the best practice because I don't want her to be rolled over on or get to the point where she is incapable of sleeping in her own crib. I realize that she is only less than a week old and its good for babies to bond by being close to their parents, but I also know that us holding her in bed the whole night gives us little rest too. We have also tried swaddling her, talking to soothe her and rubbing her chest since we place her in the bassinet on her back.Any advice? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2Exyi7O

How do you get ANYTHING done with a newborn?

I had my baby a little over 3 weeks ago. Just writing that puts things a little into perspective, how it simultaneously feels like its been two days and a year. When I was still bleeding a flood and in pain from delivery, everything seemed too much. But I had my SO to help me out by changing diapers when walking was too hard, feed me while I was nursing, burp her when I couldn't bc of swollen boobs, and give me much needed bathroom breaks etc.Today is his second day of work after I gave birth. Yesterday was hell. All I do is sit in the same chair, nurse her for hours, burp her, change her diaper, and try to put her down for a nap so I can get food / a water refill / bathroom break. For now I have given up on getting more than 5 minutes to myself while home alone with her. I admit my expectations where too high. I had this silly mental image of doing yoga while she smiles at me from a blanket. And doing chores/shopping/cooking with her in the sling. laughs at own pathetic optimism Originally I thought I could at least grab some food with her on one arm. But she lifts her head ALL the time while being held, so there is a real chance she will loose her balance and drop to the floor. She cries in the sling. She cries when we try to go for a walk. She cries if I lay her in her bed. Even (and especially) if she has just been peacefully sleeping on me for whatever time period after nursing.I constantly seem to read / be told to 'sleep when baby sleeps'.. Im baffled. Do people's babies sleep more than 10 minutes at a time when they are put down? Or am I supposed to sleep while she sleeps on my stomach / on the nursing pillow after a feeding? Doesn't seem safe. This way she can actually get a few hours of sleep. So I am left to sleep while SO watches her. We have split the night into shifts for us both to be able to sleep. Of course she cries half the time when he has her. Should I feel bad for not giving him a full nights sleep? Or being able to fall asleep while hearing her cry? Im just so tired when Im finally able to hand her over to him when he comes home.I should maybe clarify I am in no way depressed, I love her and enjoy the time I spend with her. After all, the reason babies are so cute is because they are so annoying.Im a very practical person to begin with, but I can live with only doing laundry on the weekends. It just doesnt seem right that I dont have time to eat or even go to the bathroom. It doesnt seem healthy and it is exhausting.Moms/dads with clingy babies, how tf do you get shit done? Not looking for 'remember to burp her' or 'have you changed her before putting her down?' I want to know how you personally got through this. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2FzcvMi

13 year old daughter has no friends from school.

She doesn't even try. She has a few girls she sees occasionally outside of school but has zero interest in social media or contacting anyone when she is home. None. Just watches tv and goes to tennis lessons. It makes me worry. Only child too. Pretty. Thin. Athletic. Good clothes. Not gifted. Not in remedial. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2rTHa4V

Intussusception sucks big time.

It isn’t like we need any other things to be wary of as parents but I just thought I would put this out there in case anyone else can spare their baby a bit of pain.Intussusception. Have you heard of it? Until yesterday I hadn’t, but apparently it is fairly common in toddlers between 6 mos and 3 years old and it is VERY painful. The ER nurse told us this is the fourth case she’s seen this week. How can this be so common and I’ve never heard of it?!On Sunday morning after breakfast my son started screaming in pain, like I have never heard before, and crying “My tummy hurts! My tummy hurts!” I thought, oh no, here we go with the flu. I tried to keep him comfy all day but the pain kept coming in waves about every 15 minutes. He never got a fever and he only threw up once. I thought maybe appendicitis? Maybe constipation? Still no fever and it seemed like it was getting better so we didn’t take him in. When he woke up Monday he seemed much better, no crying in pain. Then he ate breakfast and it started again, but worse this time. We made him an appointment at his pediatrician but they were full all the way until evening so we waited and tried to get him to rest. He was in so much pain that he would cry out and then fall straight asleep. As soon as we got in at the doctor and the nurses saw him coming in and out of sleep and screaming in pain they knew something was very wrong. The doctor came in and checked him out and said she thought it was intussusception and we needed to get to the pediatric ER but to expect to be transferred to our nearby bigger city’s children’s hospital because he might need surgery. Talk about panic! Saturday he was fine and now he needs surgery?!? WTF?!So in a panic off we went to the ER. They did an X-ray and an ultrasound and confirmed he would need to go to the other hospital and have the correction procedure. Intussusception is when part of their intestine folds in to another part, kind of like how a telescope collapses down on itself and it’s extremely painful. The only way to correct it is to go in either through the mouth or rectum and inflate that part of the intestine with air until it straightens out. If that fails then surgery is required. It has to be corrected, they call it reduced, as soon as possible or it could cause tissue death and a perforated bowel. We were taken by ambulance to the children’s hospital, they re-confirmed the intussusception and sent us up for the procedure. It was absolutely terrifying. He was awake, I was in a waiting room 5 rooms away and could hear him screaming from where I stood. There is nothing worse than knowing your baby is in pain and not being able to help them, apart from actively sending them in there and leaving them. It took 2 tries and it was corrected. After a few hours we were released and all seemed well. The doctors warned us that it could reoccur within 24 hours and sure enough at midnight on Tuesday he woke up crying in pain again. We are now back at Children’s hospital waiting for them to do the air enema again and dreading that he will be in pain but still hopeful that he won’t need surgery. He is sleeping from the medication and I hope to god he can stay asleep for the procedure this time.So this long story is so that you know, if your baby or toddler is in serious stomach pain that comes in waves about every 15 minutes and it doesn’t seem normal take them to the ER right away! It can be accompanied by fever, vomiting and sometimes diarrhea. They won’t want to eat or drink and will be overall pretty miserable in pain. I feel terrible that we waited so long, and it can end up being really dangerous if it is not treated quickly. I hope now you know a little bit about intussusception because I was clueless and my little guy suffered for it. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2E3BYQB
