Gush: Our daughter said "ma ma ma" last night

She'll be 6 months tomorrow (4/2) and last night my wife came rushing to bed (I was battling some flu symptoms) and our daughter repeated back "ma ma ma ma" to both of us. Wife said her heart was bursting with joy. I think I cried. It was especially cute when she would mouth "ma ma ma" but not actually say it. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2nu4cZf

Newborn Gas 4+ hours after eating?

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but my wife and I are trying to figure out what the heck was going on with our 11-week-old last night. He had last eaten at 330PM with no issues. Starting at 5PM, he became inconsolable and was screaming at the top of his lungs. We have no idea what was going on, we tried gripe water, even tylenol at one point because the screaming was going on for over 3 hours. Is it possible for a baby to have gas pains more than 4 hours after they last fed? I would have thought at that point that there wasn't any food or gas really in their system to get uncomfortable from. His screaming definitely sounded similar to gas pain screaming, and he was retracting his legs back and forth. Whatever it was, it seemed to hit him in waves every couple of minutes or so. He eventually conked out asleep at around 830PM and didn't move for at least 4 hours. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2nIew0W

Potty Training cues for 20 month old

20 month old son doesn't pronounce a whole lot of specific words other than mama dada bye and hey. He's doing really good with potty training when I'm watching him throughout the day. But he doesn't signal to me that he needs to go. He just goes. That's great but when we go out or put him in regular clothes he won't say anything. Doesn't care if he pees in his undies. So the only time we have successful potty usage is at home with no pants on. What can I do to get him to let me know? I'd like to quit going back and forth with diapers when we go out or something. Thanks! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2nWhwc3

17 month old has no words, only speaks with mouth closed and "guhs" through nose.

It's maddening. We are so worried about him and we have a speech therapy session coming up soon. But we are concerned about autism. He shows many symptoms like: spinning around in circles while looking out the side of his vision (the eye thing is rare though). He toe walks sometimes (also rarely), he doesn't respond to his name or mostly anything (he knows 'no' and 'can I have that please?') he points to things too like in books until we say what they are and his play is normal (drives cars and puts toy phone to ear and 'guhs')Has anyone else child done the nose guhhing thing? How did you resolve it? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2nqy6gt

11 year old controlling 1 year old

We live in an apartment in my inlaws basement. My husband has a sister who is 15 and a brother who is 11. While our apartment has a separate entrance, a kitchen, etc, we still end up seeing his family pretty often. Most of the time, it is great. They love seeing their grandson, and it's nice to have some extra sets of hands around. However, I have trouble with how the 11 year old interacts with my 18 month old.My BIL loves to play, but is very controlling. He wants to pick up the toddler all the time, wants to make him play in a certain way, and is kind of smothering. My BIL wants to visit a lot in the afternoons, but more often I go upstairs to visit the family.I've tried the gentle approaches. "He doesn't like that. Put him down". "He seems like he wants to play by himself right now." Or "Let him do his own thing." But it's getting to the point that my BIL isn't really respecting those boundaries. He's a nice kid, but impulsive and if you give an inch, he takes three miles.I don't know what a middle ground is between what I'm already doing and "Go away." Any suggestions? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2nHGOsh

Tonight my child asked to watch TJ Maxx. I spent over thirty minutes trying to figure out what in the world he was talking about.

Was it a brand he saw at TJ Maxx? In the toy section or on a tee shirt? Did he see this show after visiting TJ Maxx? Thankfully he remembered the word "gekko" and typed in with TJ Maxx things became a lot clearer. But seriously, PJ Masks? Either I have been without cable for too long or PJ Masks is trying to make my child a maxxinista. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2nGtZOS
