“All the boys don’t have eyelashes but all the girls do”I thought it was pretty interesting how he picked up on and vocalized this small difference. It was an example of how media is informing what he thinks of as “normal”.We told him that in the real world both boys and girls have eyelashes and having long pronounced eyelashes isn’t something just for girls. The experience left me thinking about all the other things he's coming to think of as normal based on the media he consumes. Most of us just take some reasonable precautions against truly terrible media. We are not scrutinizing every minute of every show before letting our kids see it (and with PBS i think this is by and large a safe/sane move). But make no mistake that Nature Cat, Ready Jet Go, and the rest are teaching our kids more than just fun facts about science and math. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2tx3tLP
