Short hair for toddler girls?

I am the parent of an almost 1-year old, who doesn't have much hair at this point. I'm assuming that over the next year or two, she will have a lot more hair to deal with.My partner and I just our first discussion about what her hair might look like in the next few years, when I imagine she won't have strongly-held preferences about hair length (though maybe I'm wrong about that?). I imagine keeping her hair short might make daily maintenance a hell of a lot easier for her (and for us) while she's still very young. We realized we couldn't think of a toddler girl we knew that had short hair. We do know some long haired boys, but that's a different matter I think. There are lots of short hair styles for toddlers online, so it certainly seems possible. But I'm hoping to hear from other parents who have grappled with the hair question for young girls. At this age, boys and girls look pretty similar, and my sense is that for the most part parents use hair length to differentiate girls from boys. How have you dealt with this decision? The default might be to just let her hair grow long and cut it down the line if she wants to. Easier to make it short than to make it long. But why not just keep it short while they are young? We are not doing the "theyby" thing, and we have no reason to believe that her gender presentation will be non-normative (because she's too young--I think we'd be supportive if that becomes a thing as she grows up). But, we have worked to stay gender-neutral with regard to clothes, toys, etc. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2vud6ys
