I picked up my daughter from headstart Monday. her nose was red, and her eyes were visibly swollen from crying.as we left my daughter explained to me she fell down at the playground and hit her face on the playground bars.that same day it became extremely swollen, and i was concerned. When dropping her off the next day I asked her teacher what had happened, and the teacher mentioned she nor did the aide witnessed the incident. She mentioned there was another teacher on the yard and she was just aware she got hurt, but not what actually happened.we took her to the pediatrician after picking her up on Tuesday. he suspected she had a septal hematoma and recommended we immediately visit the emergency room of a children's hospital 40 minutes away.I've made 3 trips there for evaluations and ct-scans. they confirmed her nose was broken in multiple spots. every doctor I've talked to says that it's over what they are use to dealing with. that if it was broken in one spot they could stick something in her nose and pop it back into place, but because of all the areas it's broken in, and how damaged it is, they keep wanting me to see other doctors, and visit other hospitals. she has another appointment with an ears/nose/throat specialist tomorrow about an hour away and they are telling me on the phone about possibly needing surgery. It's concerning because no-one at the school has any idea what actually happened, and my childs school didn't even inform me of her injury, nor did they even give her ice. It's scary because she obviously hit her face rather hard. If her nose didn't take the impact it could have been something more serious that might not have gotten the medical attention it deserved. I've seen one instance in the past where the director of the headstart take a child who was throwing a tantum to the parking lot to try and catch her mom who had just walked off the grounds and I thought it was a little traumatizing seeing a child hysterically crying while the director was screaming for her moms name in an empty parking lot.I suspect the supervision or how they handle situations isn't really that great. I do want to complain, but I feel like calling the main office phone number and speaking to the office is just going to result in them blowing the issue off. I really want them to change protocols. because although driving 40+ minutes away. spending multiple hours at an emergency(12 hours yesterday alone), take medication to sit through a CT-Scan, and possibly need facial surgery sucks... but if her nose hadn't taken the impact she may have had some serious brain trauma or possible hemorrhaging and the only way I would have known would be if my 3 year old expressed her injury to me.What would be the best way to get them to change their protocols? or use them? Not notifying me of any incident or injury seems pretty careless.is there someone who oversees these headstart programs that I should contact? or what does reddit suggest?all and all i'm upset that they didn't make it seem like a big deal, nor did they even tell me. I haven't taken her to school since Tuesday, and I'm probably going to stop taking her altogether but I do want some policy/protocols setup to prevent something more serious from happening in the future. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2IBFRMh
