Encouraging Independent Play in 5 y/o

Looking for advice for encouraging independent play in my 5 year old son.He is driving us bananas. He non-stop tries to rely on his for his entertainment, which includes relentless badgering and climbing all over us. Don't get me wrong, we play with our kid but we can't do this 24/7 (obviously). He will occasionally do things for a while (draw, play Hot Wheels, build legos) without us but not nearly enough. It does help (briefly) when I give him a task like, "Draw me a Minion." or "Find all the Hot Wheels that are the same." It also sometimes help to include him in whatever chore we're doing (laundry, cooking).I hate to rely on screen time to get a break, so I am looking for suggestions. He is an only child w/ a good amount/variety of toys.TIA! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2I1ehXP
