I'm probably in the wrong spot but hoping for some help here. Long story short, my wife and I are starting the process of adopting her distant cousin (4 years old). She's been in foster care her entire life but has been with the same foster family the last 2.5-3 years. The question I'm asking is, is there a way we can smooth the transition for her to come into our home. It's going to be bit of a shock for both of us and I'm concerned that my wife will be crushed if it doesn't go well.
