My 10-year-old son is super smart, but super forgetful and scatterbrained. How can I help him before next year's move to middle school?

My son on the one hand has always been the smart kid in class. Currently he reads at a high school level and takes special classes in math and reading outside of his regular school work. The kid can memorize anything - like 100 digits of pi, Tom Lehrer's Element Song, the entire periodic table, etc.But... he can't bring home his lunchbox more than 3 days out of 5. He's had a permission slip for a field trip tomorrow sitting at school for two weeks. Every container we send snacks to school in ends up sitting in his locker for weeks. He breezes through his homework - when he remembers to bring it home. How can I help him? His teacher is already saying he's in for a tough time next year when he moves to middle school. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2EHybWA
