Should she (14F) apologize?

Mom writing here but my husband did add in his own view. Background:It was my brothers birthday dinner at my parents house last weekend. Our child wanted to go to her friends house the night before for a sleepover. We said sure but remember that we have my brothers dinner the next day, we will pick you up at 4pm. She said sure and everything was fine.So the day of we receive a text from her at about 3:10 saying "I'm out ice skating" to which we replied with a reminder about picking her up at 4pm for the dinner. She was not at her friends house when we arrived, when we called her she said she is waiting on a ride back. We left for the dinner and told her to call us when she gets back and we will pick her up and go back to the dinner. The dinner ended at 6 pm and our child called us to pick her up at about 6:10 pm.So my question is should our child apologize to my parents and brother for not showing up. We are going to their house for Christmas dinner. My reasoning for apologizing to them:What she did was very rude and on top of that it was a special occasion that she just blew off. While my family didn't say anything bad about it out loud I'm sure they were offended by it and will be even more offended if we just ignore it. As a side note I already apologized to my brother and my mom/dad for our daughters behavior. My reasoning for her not apologizing to them:Our child had a bad habit of apologizing in such a way that it sounds very sarcastic. If her apology ends up coming off sarcastic to my family I think it will just make things worse...My husbands reasoning for her not apologizing to them:She made us angry by skipping the dinner. It may have bothered your family but that was a secondary thing. Bringing it up again and having her apologize for going out with her friends and staying too late will only get her agitated. Your parents likely do not expect an apology a week later. Its not like we all skipped out, just the teenager which we told your parents was just out ice skating. We were angry because we told her when to be available and she wasn't. In response she has lost the ability to go to other peoples houses when we have plans the following day. Having her apologize to your parents which for all intents is a third party seems silly and unnecessary. As a side note to my husbands reply:The only punishment that we gave her was that when there is a family activity the next day she can't spend the night at a friends house. Friends can stay at our house but she can't leave. This wouldn't happen often if it was any month other then December.I just want to know what you guys think. Thank you! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2zhB7p6
