My 5 year old had to go through a lock down because an angry person threatened to kill teachers and administration at his elementary (only) school.

When my kindergartner told me that they had practiced "lock down" within their first week of school, I found it very early and I mean... we're in Canada, in a small city, what could be so tragic that the school would go in lock down and that kindergartners would need to hide under their desks with their hands covering their faces and bodies. Better safe than sorry though, right?Well yesterday, as all the kids were already dressed to leave for the day, someone apparently called the school to threaten to show up and shoot teachers and administration. In an elementary school, where children are all under 12, innocent and helpless. School was put on lock down, students had to stay in their classes under their desks, dressed with their snow suits, probably scared and more than hot. Classes were locked, doors were locked, police was called, tons of cars showed up, parents were asked to wait meters away.In the end, police escorted children out, they were safely put in buses, they were safely returned to their parents. My son came home much later than usual, crying. He told me that he was scared, that they were put in lock down. The bus driver quickly told me what happened but that they'd send out an email to parents...I'm tearing up as I'm writing this, how cruel can people be? How can someone even think about shooting teachers and administration for God knows what reason with kids that are anywhere from 4 to 12 years old? Therapists were available at school today and children were encouraged to go back and put this past them but I know most kids will remember this. Yesterday, my 5 year old got to see how dark some people are. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2oK8kpf
