Guys, I am so proud right now.

The kid (11) had some friends over, and I let them use the kitchen to make cupcakes. They promised to clean up afterwards (haha), so fine with me.I went to get some groceries. When I came back, daughter said, on the brink of tears: "Mom ... I need to tell you something. ... ... We broke a plate! Please don't be mad! We cleaned everything up but I wanted to tell you because I know you like to run around barefoot, and maybe we missed a shard ..."Thing is, if she wouldn't have told me, I'd never have realized that a plate was gone. I love to host so I have loads of tabeware, nothing expensive either, and I don't keep count. Also, my kitchen is not immaculate. If I would have found a shard, I would have blamed it on one of my former accidents. So, she could have decided not to tell me that she broke something. I would have never realized. But she did tell me. Because she apparently trusts me. And she felt it was the right thing to own up.I hugged her, told her she did the right thing, and also to broom the kitchen one more time. She did. And I am so, so proud. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2nJrj33
