(Gush) my 3 1/2 year old connected the dots about reading.

Well he's been in preschool since last year, and of course they do the alphabet and numbers like crazy, all the time. He enjoys being read to like most other kids, has learned how his name is spelled, and recognizes that letters appear practically everywhere. But before today, he never really understood that letters add up to words, and mean things.I was driving him home today, and as usual he was talking non-stop about all the other cars and trucks. He kept asking 'mommy, what's that truck/car/sign' which is usual, but it's because he wants to start a conversation about types of trucks. Then finally he says "but, what's it say?" I realized he was talking about the trucks that have logos and advertising on them, so, wide-eyed, I tried reading every truck that passed by us to satisfy this curiosity. This, surprisingly, hadn't sunk in what it meant. At dinner, he pulled out his Christmas plate to eat on. It says 'fa-la-la' on it, nothing else, but he points to the word and starts sounding out "Chris-muh-as puh puh-luh-ate" like a kid would do learning how to read. My mom and I about fell out of our seats. Holy crap, holy crap you guys he's learning to read. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2o1KcQK
