5 y/o won't play by himself

My son has never rly played by himself. He has tons of toys and what not he can be doing alone. Lately it has become a problem so much that he will just sit on the couch just staring at us doing the things we need to get done. How do we help him get in the habit of doing things alone? He's a vry Social kid, class clown, he's a great kid.
