I am actually her 24yr old sister, rather than her parent, but my mother doesn't use reddit and I figured it certainly couldn't hurt to try this subreddit. My 9 year old sister has been completely refusing to go to school for about a month now. The beginnings of refusal started in late November, and it began with her saying her stomach hurt too much to go. My mom let her stay home about a day or two each week until maybe early December she began refusing completely, to the point of crying fits and panic attacks. I haven't witnessed them myself, but my mother told me twice my sister has worked herself up to the point that she's actually thrown up in the midst of my mother trying to get her to school. My dad was off of work for December so he stayed with her, and ultimately my sister has not been to school in weeks, despite the whole family trying both on their own and together. My sister, after much talking and a couple doctors appointments to confirm her stomach is fine, has admitted that she doesn't feel safe at school. She won't explain why, but says that she doesn't want to be apart from the family, and her stomach hurts more when she isn't with us.With my dad's vacation over, it's not possible for anyone to stay home with her and it's making our daily lives incredibly stressful trying to figure out what to do. My mother is trying to make appointments with child psychiatrists but hasn't gotten any responses so far. We've brought up the suggestion of switching schools but she didn't seem willing for that either. She's openly said she'd do the schoolwork if it was given to her at home but the fact is we absolutely cannot afford to have someone watch her every day. My mom is already wearing her job's patience thin with how much she's had to call out or go in late/leave early because of this.We are at our wit's end, my mom has an appointment with the principal tomorrow to try and get something done but other than that we are out of ideas. If anyone has any insight, I would be so incredibly grateful.edit: forgot to mention, we took her to a pediatrician who diagnosed her with separation anxiety and school refusal. She gave us the info for multiple therapists, but no one my mother has reached out to so far has responded. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2ixhgxo
