Do you increase the amount of food for your kids who are in sports during the season? What/how much do you feed them?

My 7 year old started hockey and was playing twice a week during the season. He is only a little above average on height but he is very big boned- and no I don't mean a euphemism for overweight. He is very lean (you can see his ribs and every ab muscle) but has a big frame. People regularly joke that he looks like he lifts weights. Well during hockey, it looked like he started to thin out a little bit too much for my liking. He went from lean to every-rib-sticking-out and concave belly lean. Unfortunately I can't say if he lost weight because I didn't weigh him during this time, but he did get weighed a little less than a month ago (shortly after the end of the season) and then again yesterday and had gained 3-4 lbs! Is that a normal? Did he have a big spurt of weight gain because he is catching up from before? He is going to start playing again and I am thinking I need to maybe throw an extra meal in there every game day or something. We eat healthy and mostly homemade everything. He is a good eater too, which helps. What are your favorite high-energy foods you feed your really active kids? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2j5sHOh
