Custody of 14yo boy

Im 23 and my wife is 25, we have two beautifull sons aged 3 and 2.In 2015 my mother passed away due to breast cancer and as she was our sole parent, my little brother (12 at the time) had his entire world turned upside down. Our father has never played an active role in our life and would show his face from time to time, mum never said a bad word about him but always emphasized that we see and understand him for who he is.He was a violent alcoholic and me being the eldest always was protective of the family and we never saw eye to eye and had many physical altercations growing up.Several hours after mum passed i thought it was only right to let him know.I managed to pull myself together and call him to tell him the news...and what i got was a slight chuckle and 'awesome that means i get the house'. So yeah can obviously understand my rage and the type of creature he is.My wife and i immediatly made arrangements for my brother to live with us and for me to be legal guardian...which was an expensive uphill battle.Father took mums house, bank accounts made a claim on her super and we luckily got away with her jewelery claiming she sold it to pay for cancer treatments. We have provided everything for him from paying for school to sports and everything inbetween for a moody teenage boy lol. We have tried our hardest for him to have a normal life. Each time i would ask for some kind of help (pay for school uniforms etc) i was told no and that i was the one looking after him so its my responsibility. He has now started contesting custody because he found out we also made a claim on mums super and my brother has a sizeable amount locked away untill he is 21. The only reason he is contesting is because of this money.Ive only explained minimal to my brother to not burden him with these kinds of stresses, but is it time i explain what our father is doing? Or like mum always emphasized and let him find out for himself?Should a 14 year old boy whos lost his mother be told his fathers taken everything she ever worked for just so we cant have it?Just to add my brother is a wonderfull uncle and my boys absolutely adore him! :) via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2k7gGHO
