I won’t have to worry about this for a few years but i just want some opinions!

20 weeks pregnant FTM, and i was just thinking about when my daughter starts school and does field trips. A lot of schools will bring them to the zoo, but i don’t support zoos because it’s not natural for the animals to be there. i can understand why some are there but for the most part, they belong in the wild. should i leave my personal feelings out of it and allow her to go on these field trips as a kid so she doesn’t miss out, or should i try and teach her that animals don’t belong there and that they should be free? i don’t wanna be that shitty parent that makes her feel left out. but i also don’t wanna spend a dollar towards something i don’t support 🥺 maybe i’m jumping the gun? via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2PHEOyf

father to a five month baby - feeling burned out

Hi,So , I am a father for a five month old baby , i like to think of my self as a really involved father, the first few month were crazy (as to be expected), and as my wife was also exclusively pumping it meant that she had to pump every 3-4 hours , and what it meant for me is that i wanted to make her life easier, so i woke up every time at night to feed the baby so she will get more sleep, going later to work so she will have time to pump and eat something in the morning, coming home earlier from work, and taking as much responsibility as possible in the weekends so she will get more rest.In the past few weeks things got easier, she almost stopped pumping , and the baby wakes up only once at night ( so my wife can get a whole night of sleep), for now the thing that we struggling with is the sleep training ( but this is also to be expected)i sleep around 7 to 7.5 hours at night ( with one half hour feeding break in the middle) , we manage to get some quality time in the evenings and the sex life is quite good for a couple with a 5 month old babyBut ironically i am now feeling burned out or even maybe depressed, every evening after he is going to sleep i am afraid that for some reason he will wake up , and we wont get any sleep , or when he will start teething he will stop sleeping. And as my wife really "likes" to update me all the time about what happening at home during the day ( good and bad), I am also feeling on "edge" whole day when i am at work because maybe i will get a phone call from her that she is really struggling ,and i will feel responsible that i am not able to help her because i am at work.I feel that i dont have any time for my self , because i am going straight home from work , as i want to help her , and i dont think that it is fair that i will go to the out for example instead of going home to help her.I also am feeling frustrated that i am working so many hours ( 9 hours per day ) and i am not at home to help or to hang out with them.I am not sure how can i stop feeling anxious ,expecting the worst, and guilty for not being able to helpMM via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2XRUQZc

Heartbroken that 1yo son loves husband better

My(27 F) 15 month old son is a daddy’s boy and it is breaking my heart. If his dad is around he wants nothing to do with me. He will scream bloody murder if I do much as try to hold him or comfort him (he probably thinks I am taking him from daddy).Last night he had a rough night and was up every hour screaming and crying. At one point my husband got up and I could tell he was frustrated and tired. He grabbed the bottle and tried to force the baby to take it and practically yelled at him to stop so he would sleep. He was being very rough with a baby. I could hear my little man struggling and sucking in breaths. About a few minutes later the crying started again and it just sounded painful. I jumped up to check on him, turned on the lights, and see he is grabbing at his legs and lo and behold he has a pretty nasty rash. So I pick him up try soothing him and put cream on his legs. He calms down for a moment. I pick him up after and he just started screaming and crying. I take him out of the bedroom and try to rock him but he is inconsolable, then daddy comes takes him from me and poof he stops crying. My sleep deprived soul was just heartbroken. I actually took the time to see what was wrong, fix it, and calm him and he just wants daddy.Ugh I know it is a phase and he doesn’t know better, but my heart hurts.Anyway, thank you for letting me vent.TL;DR 15 month old prefers daddy over me and it breaks my heart. via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2vwMv1a

Gave Birth on my Birthday

Hello,I am a very new mom! I just had my little boy this past March, and actually ended up having him on my birthday. It was a very surreal feeling. I’m so happy he is here, he is my whole world. I couldn’t be more in love, and I’m so happy to be a mom.But I feel very guilty about a selfish thought I am having. I am sad I gave birth on my birthday. No one celebrated it before or after (labour was very much unexpected, early delivery), and I was called selfish by my partner because I cried when he didn’t do anything for it (birthdays have always been huge for us). To be fair to me, it was two days after, and I think I had slept a total of 4 broken hours since giving birth - and was very much in pain and hormonal still.I know it is selfish to feel this way, I was given the greatest gift on my birthday! Sometimes I am happy that we are connected this way, but most of the time I just wish it was a day before or a day after. I would never take my son’s birthday from him - every year moving forward that day will always be for my little guy, I don’t ever want to make him share. I’ve had enough birthdays, and I know it’s about him now.But I am jealous and a bit bitter that my partner’s birthday is coming up and we are throwing him a big party with family and friends. He made me feel so bad about being sad I won’t have that again, but now is looking forward to HIS birthday.I know we can celebrate my birthday on a different day, and we will. I know that my son and I can make special traditions together and bond over our shared day. I know all of this logically, but I’m having a hard shaking the last of this selfish feeling.Do any of you share a birthday with your child? How did you feel about it at first? Did anything change for you? via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2V6SdWK

Not really fussed that she’s pregnant.

I’m a 40 year old Expectant Dad and I’m wondering if there are any other Dads out there that weren’t really emotional when they were given the news?I love my wife with all my heart and I’ll do my very best to bring up a well behaved, well mannered child but I’m a little concerned that I honestly don’t seem to care that we’re having our first child.I’m not generally a negative or emotional person, I think I’ve cried maybe twice in my adult life but I love to laugh and I love to make people laugh, so I’m not miserable or anything.I genuinely feel like meh, I’ll bring it up but it wouldn’t bother me if it wasn’t happening. Is this normal? via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2GOtU5S

1 year old just screamed a nightmarish scream that sounded like it belonged in a horror film while sleeping. Is this normal?

As said above it was a terrifying loud screech or scream. He was asleep and didnt wake or react to it. Just the scream then nothing. I swear I thought he was being attacked or something it was freaky ass hell. Is this normal? Should I be worried? He has had night terrors before but I never hear anything like this and I'm a little concerned. via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2GLQVGD
