My kid (7yo) is the 3rd wheel in a friendship

My oldest daughter (7yo) is a pretty happy, bubbly little kid, has no problem making friends and seems 'popular' enough at school. She's been 'best friends' with one girl ever since preschool. Thing is this girl is also 'best friends' with another girl. Their parents are friends and hang out a lot together, so naturally the two other kids spend a lot more time together.Looking at it from afar, she only really likes one of the 2 friends. We had the other for a sleepover and it went pretty bad. They were fighting a lot, the kid didn't want to participate in anything we suggested, and pretty much moped most of the time. Apparently the same happened when my kid went for a sleepover over at her place. So it seems they're basically pretty much just friends because they're both friends with this other girl. While they both consider my girl their friend, it's pretty clear to me she's the third wheel in this friendship. The other day what she told me really broke my heart for her. She said 'I know friend X and Y love me a bit less than each other, but I don't mind'. Most the times when there's an activity in pairs they will choose each other and my kid is left out. My kid doesnt seem to mind much, but it just pains me to see this.Obviously you can't force a friendship. But to me it seems like she's just made up her mind these two are her 'friends' and leaves no room in her mind to make new friends. Like a say, she's pretty social and in fact has lots of other little friends but she doesnt really consider them as such.E.g. There's one of our neighbor's kids who wants to come play all the time, she likes going over there as well. There's two other girls she plays with a lot at school and with whom we organize playdates, and she does like playing with them, but she will never consider those 'real' friends because she already has her mind so made up since preschool that the other two are her friends. How can I help make her see that its not because she hung out with these two before, that those have to be her only 'friends' forever. She's in class with the 2 'best friends', but most the other kids she's friends with (even if she doesn't officially classify them as such) are in another class group of the same age. (same school)Would it be an idea to ask that for next year they put her in the class with the other kids so she's kind of pulled out of this 3rd wheel situation, and pushed more towards the other friends? She might be a bit sad at first she's not in class with her BFFs, but I think it might help her break out of this dynamic and not have to settle for being 2nd...Or should I just let things take their course? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2vc6VzR
