Iam a nana who has stepped in and has been raising my granddaughter since she was 4 months old. I got sole custody of her when she turned two years old. She is now 6 she will be 7 in a few months. I have always referred to myself as nana...well cause iam nana lol. How do i explain to her that iam not mom but nana...she seems to understand iam MOM but my name is nana...like your name might be bobby or sue.. I want to adopt her legally...both parents have agreed in the past to sign the papers...but how do i even start to explain to a 6 year old about adoption and not beimg mom? She refers to me as mom to all her friends, teachers, and strangers... She knows my son is her dad but does not see him and she refers to him by his name..she has no clue as to her birth mom or that she even has one... Ugh im so lost...maybe im to old for this haha. via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2YJByWo
