My son got accepted into the local 4th grade QUEST program for gifted kids based on his test scores. Only 23 kids in the school district got in (smallish town ~100k). When I opened the letter I cried a lil. Couldn’t be prouder. Not that testing and academics are everything, he makes me proud on a daily basis due to his honesty and generosity and kindness to his peers and siblings, but we take academics very seriously in our house and this is a big deal.We are giving him the choice whether to go. To me and mom it’s not really a choice but we are letting him make the decision, knowing that he will make the right one. He is skeptical, because it involves transferring to a different school away from his friends and is pretty intense, but he seems to be coming around. When he was taking the tests he was excited but he thought it was only one day a week, didn’t realize that for 4th grade it’s immersion. We only live a few blocks from his main friend in his school, and his second-best friend goes to the catholic school anyways.Just a proud papa right now. via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2Qu6sPS
