My 8 year old got invited to a b-day party. And he already picked out the present. Now his friend's mom texted saying she'd prefer not to get gifts

​My son is excited about giving his friend the present he specially picked out this weekend. But the friend's mom texted an hr ago saying that they'd prefer if the birthday boy got no gifts since his family already spoils him rotten. Tbh, they are a really well off family, they have lucrative careers, other than that, i don't know them at all tbh. I just feel weird bc i already bought the gifts. And my son helped pick them out and is so proud of them. I'm pretty sure he already told his friend about them too. I worry if i show up anyway with the gifts ill get glares or they'll assume i don't respect their parenting styles. Or ill be the ONLY person to show up with gifts and i'll look like an oddball.
