One of those things that no one primes you for when you become a parent: people making casual observations with no basis in fact, usually concerning your job as a parent or your child's development. But this one was pretty egregious. Here's the exchange:Me: sees dog, walks over with 2yo son to say hiMe: "say hi to the doggie!" gestures toward dogSon: "hi doggie!" wavesLady: "how old is he?"Me: "he just turned two, actually."Lady: "oh, is he a little slow... you know with language?"Me, now with a confused look on my face: "um, nope. Completely normal toddler."Lady: "oh, because when I had 2 year olds, they were little blabbermouths. It was so annoying, couldn't get them to shut up!"Me: "bye doggie!" wavesI suffer from that thing where you think of witty comebacks well after the fact. But if I had the chance again, I probably would've fired back with "and how much do they talk to you now?" Looking back on it now, it's kind of hilarious that she made this judgment based on two words. I'm consistently baffled by people who think this kind of commentary is okay?ETA: mobile formatting was all jacked. via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2EiycSj
