Longest hour of my life...

There is nothing like finding out your 5 year olds school is on lock down and having no answers as to why other than all students and staff are safe. Then to go on a rampage through everyone’s Facebook pages and their older kids pages who are currently at said school to see if anyone has said anything.Apparently a middle schooler brought an air soft gun to school and threatened to shoot one of his classmates then panicked and tried to hide the gun before he even tried anything. LUCKILY one student told one of the staff as soon as they saw the gun. I thank and pray for that kid because they saved everyone. (Yes I know it was an airsoft gun but that child did not know and knew only to notify someone immediately). Finally get the email sent out that says school is no longer on lock down and everyone is safe. The relief. But then... when your 5 year old comes home and tells you they had to hide quietly in the dark in the bathroom for a “long long time”. I am so glad her teacher was quick to lock them in the nearest room and keep all those littles safe.I didn’t think I would have to talk to my 5 year old about why they had to hide. What the kid did was wrong and very bad and why it was bad..... so early in her life.No this is not a gun control post. We own guns. We hunt. I have my own gun in the house locked up for protection should something ever happen. This is a post about the scares as a parent that we never think would ever happen to us. And how grateful I am for her school being prepared. And for that one student that risked their own safety to tell someone. That is all.Just a little shaken up.Hug your kids. It may have been an airsoft gun this time... via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2PUJ1Oh
