I (40/m) am taking my niece (14/f) out to coffee today. What sorts of things can we talk about to make her feel comfortable, open up a bit and not feel like an awkward conversation? Her mom (my sister) wants me to build a stronger bond with her to guide her through high school, college prep etc. I used to be very close to her when she was growing up, but lost touch over the last few years as I moved to a different city, had my own kids etc. Now I feel like a stranger to her, and we've lost the connection we once had when she was a kid. She's a bright kid, straight A student and has done nothing to concern her parents. But I have no experience talking to a teenager, and don't know what to say except make "dad jokes" about Snapchat and praise her Instagram photos... via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2E9761t
