Teenager has a question about parenting

Hello all, i am a freshman in high school and i have some strict parents i need advice on. Since middle school, they have expected no less than a 90 on any summative grades and in high school, the expectation is now a 93 and higher. I understand they want me to get a 93 and higher for the 4.0 GPA (and if it is an honors class, it boosts to a 4.3), but every time i dont get a 93 or higher, i lose every piece of technology i own until the grade goes up plus 1 week to make sure all grades stay the same. It also doesnt help my whole school is 80% indians (not trying to be racist, I have indian friends). My parents expect me to be as smart as them for some reason. if i did not get a 90+ on every class i got at the end of the year, they would enroll me in my same math class (in my case, Geometry in my rising 8th grade year) over the summer without any technology and i would be monitored by them to make sure i wasnt doing anything besides my math. Phone, laptop, TV, Google Home, etc. The new year, my school system started to give all grades Chromebooks to work at home on work teachers post on google classroom. They are taking my school owned chromebook for my school work and dont care what my teachers say. What should i tell my teachers when they tell us to take out our Chromebooks to play kahoot and i cant? "sorry i cant work to improve my grade with in class activities because my device was taken". My teachers dont even put grades in consistently, so im stuck for months without a new grade until the last few days of the quarter, and by that time, i cant even see what i got wrong and fix it for the next assessment on the unit. Anyways, when i try to talk with them about it, they say i am giving them excuses. I was IQ tested when i was 6 and got a 142. They are acting like i should get all 100s with that. on the other side of things, I am in 2 academic classes (other 2 classes being honors classes without clowns in them) with one individual who has a habit of calling me names. my natural reaction is to say shut up, teacher doesn't hear either of us talking until one day, all he hears is me saying shut up. He calls my parents stating that i am a disturbance and being rude to my classmates. My parents talk to me for a long period of time about enrolling me in military school. i know many many kids who have gotten suspended for very bad things they did and there punishment was nothing like considering military school. Im afraid military school is not right for me, i am a very indoor kind of person, i do things like program apps, websites, make things with raspberry pis, etc. I also am in a very high level math and science for my age and i dont know what math they teach at military schools, but it wont be as good as what im learning at the highest income county in the United States. I am open to any suggestions to what i should do as i have been living in a state of stress for a long 4 years and i am not sure how to confront my parents given the circumstances given to you. Thank you all for your support and i look forward to your guys responses. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2AzDgjS

Teachers & Parents: Have you noticed different outcomes for children in private and public K-8?

Currently, my son attends a private preschool that is a part of a Catholic K-8 school. The K-8 program is good, and it is the school that he wants to attend. However, we live in a city with a good school district.Parents and teachers who have had kids in both private and public (suburban districts with good levels of achievement), what are the pros and cons (other than cost) of sending your child to a private school over a public school? I'm especially interested in viewpoints from parents who have a child (or children) attend both public and private K-8 school, as well as teachers who have taught in both types of schools. Are there benefits to either that make one a clear choice over the other? The religion part isn't really an issue. We're more concerned with things like discipline, values, academic rigor, and so on. Basically, did you notice that one (public or private) in general seemed to have more of a positive impact overall on the child. Thanks in advance! via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2COobfT

When kids say embarrassing shit in public...

..how do you deal?! Yesterday i was shopping with my daughter (6 year old) and she was like "mom, if you want me to keep walking , you need to slap my booty....slap my booty, mom! Slap my booty, mom! slap my booty, mom! MOM!! SLAP MY BOOTY, MOM!!" I kept telling her " just please walk " and she kept saying it . WTH guys?? I thought it was OUR job as parents to be the embarrassing ones ...... crying face via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2JouU1k

As a mom what can I do to connect to my “all boy” 4 year old.

I am the mother of a 7 year old daughter and almost 4 year old son. My daughter I totally get her. It’s easy to connect with her because I am a girl and I remember what I liked to do at her age.My son is a different story. He naturally gravitates to his dad. I wrestle with him and I take him to the park to ride his bike and to feed the ducks. I watch the shows he watches and we talk about them. I pretend to care about transformers and trains.😂What else can I do? Or does anyone else struggle with connecting to your kid of the opposite sex? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2DdkvFJ

When should daughter stop showering with her dad?

My daughter just turned 5 and my ex (her dad) mentioned that they took a shower together when she was over there. I told him that I think she's too old to be taking a shower with him. He got all defensive and said it's not like he's a babysitter, he's her dad. I see where he's coming from, but I still don't think it's appropriate for her age. The thing is, I still shower with her but I feel like it's different because I'm her mother and we are both girls. What do you all think? Am I in the wrong here or is he? via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2Rspjdp

Do you allow your kids to dress up in political Halloween costumes?

I saw a story about a kid dressing up as Hitler for Halloween. I know I had some students dress up as Donald Trump and Donald Trump supporters a couple of years ago. It was mostly as a joke. My kids have no interest in political costumes so this isnt about me but I'm interested to see what other parents think. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2qfsKbs

Evaluation for special needs

My daughter is 4. She missed the cutoff date for regular school because she has a late birthday. To make a long story short, I have a toxic family that did their best to convince me that my daughter has an issue when she really has no disability. The only concern there could be is her enunciation on the letters S and L, typical kid issue and my husband thinks her tantrums are a huge concern but he hasn't dealt with kids much before. My mom had apparently devised a plan that "she (my daughter) is smart, nothing is wrong with her she just needs to be with other kids so if we get her evaluated then they might find an issue that will qualify her then she'll be in school...(my name) is ridiculous and crazy and she can't afford $800+ for daycare every month and (my daughter) needs to be away from her this is the only way so I'll tell her (me) that (daughter) has obvious issues that should be taken care of" When I heard her say this to a family member I was more than bothered.I talked with the diagnostician today about what route to take. She basically said it doesn't hurt to get her evaluated, if she qualifies I can say yes or no to putting her in the program. In this case, they would test her for her speech and maybe other issues. To be honest...I don't want her to be held back academically and socially if she's in the program. She doesn't have any disabilities. She counts to 20, she can write letters to create words, i'm teaching her to read,we bake and do activities together, all of that. Her cousins (6 and 8) include her in their homework so she's experiencing that and if she asks me about it I explain.I'm also concerned about having the evaluation tomorrow because my daughter was around my mom all day yesterday, since my sister was watching her, and now she has came back acting horrible and saying she does not like us and that she only loves my mom and that "home" is my mom's house suddenly. I am very convinced that my mom has encouraged this behavior because my daughter says things that are similar to what my mom says and this happens only when she is around my mom and family. My mother is a narcissist and I'm guessing she was working her N magic to get my daughter obsessed with her and now I have to shut her out completely now so my daughter is having hellish tantrums. This was the very last time,I stayed neutral through this and let her have one last chance and my mom blew it by causing this and also arguing, yelling at me and saying very shitty things to me in front of my husband and kids. She was gaslighting the mess out of me and my husband had to physically pick up our daughter and put her in the car because my daughter was screaming that she did not want to go home with us while my mom cussed at me. She even two-faced my husband. She told me certain things but told my husband the opposite. Example, she told me that my daughter needs help and needs Jesus, etc but she told my husband that nothing is wrong with my daughter and that i'm the crazy one. Needless to say, that was the last straw even for my sister because she's sipping the kool-aid from my mom..as well as the rest of my family. Apparently my mom got the whole family to call me and accuse me of abusing our daughter and favoring her over our 6 month old son which is not true at all,she has always said "I can find out what I need to find out and I can get (my daughter) taken from you". This is already difficult because my daughter has been throwing intense tantrums begging for my mom since she left yesterday and every time before when my mom showed up.But this isn't how she normally is so I don't want the diagnostician to think this is how she is every day, her tantrums do not get this intense until my mom leaves from a visit or we get my daughter from my mom's.Should I still have the evaluation done? It's true that we can't really afford daycare for a full month but we can do 1-2 weeks of daycare per month. She could work on her speech and get her behavior handled but she's not disabled in any way. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2SuS2iJ
