Posted in the adoption group as well but I figured I’d try here too since it seems a little more active. My husband and i have our own kids between the ages of 10 and 3. They aren’t adopted but my sister and BIL adopted 3 children this year from Foster Care. 8 and 6 yr old biological sisters and 1 3 yo boy who isn’t biologically related. This will be our first time meeting them in person but we stay in contact via Skype and FaceTime. They live 13 hours away.Last year they were still in Foster Care(under the care of my sister and BIL) so they stayed home for their first Christmas together. This year they will be staying in our home, it’s not their first vacation from home but it will be their first vacation that they are staying in someone else’s house. Is there anything we should try to remember or do differently? The girls suffered a traumatic childhood but all seem to be ok.Also wanted to add that we don’t really celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day. We open everything on Christmas Eve then they each get just 1 unwrapped present from Santa on Christmas Day.On Christmas Eve, we do a whole bunch of stuff. Kids decorate ginger bread houses, we play games, have a “live” nativity scene—my aunt narrates while the kids play the characters and animals, we open gifts, and Santa stops by on the roof to pass out candy. The whole extended family comes over. We’ve been doing it this way since i was a little girl. I took over once my grandma(who started these traditions) passed.I remember bringing a friend to my grandma’s on Christmas Eve when we were 16 and she left after like 20 minutes because it was overwhelming for her. It’s a lot! There will be about 30 people here.I’m worried about it being overwhelming from them since they aren’t used to Christmas being like this and they haven’t met any of us(except my mom) in person. via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2rQvD3i
