My dog bit my toddler in the face yesterday and sent her to the ER. I need advice on what to do about the dog now.

My daughter is 3 and was in my babysitter’s care, so I don’t know with 100% certainty what happened. The sitter told me my daughter and the dog were just playing and, before she knew it, the dog snapped and bit her cheek. My daughter generally isn’t rough with animals, but, again, I wasn’t there to know. She required several stitches but she’s okay. I tried not to be hysterical for her sake, as she was really shaken up by the whole thing. I’m worried she may scar, but more than anything I’m grateful that she wasn’t more severely hurt. The dog is currently at my sister’s apartment, but that is not a sustainable situation. The landlord there doesn’t even allow pets, so she’s hiding him. She is willing to keep him for a few more days, but I don’t want her to get in trouble, so I need to figure something out quickly.I don’t know if the dog will be euthanized if I choose not to keep him. He’s 11 years old, and I don’t think he would be readily adopted. The worst part is that my husband is currently out of the country for work. I’m afraid to call and tell him what happened because I know he will want me to get rid of the dog. (He’s not really a dog person anyway, but he’s tolerated him for my benefit). The other option, I guess, would be to keep the dog and monitor him closely. I’ve researched dog trainers, but I don’t know how much training would be beneficial. The dog has been trained since puppyhood and well-behaved. Could a trainer help to fix this if it was an isolated incident?I’m feeling very lost right now. I want to have some sort of plan in mind before I talk to my husband so that the conversation isn’t totally chaotic.I’m just desperate for advice from other parents on what they would do in my place. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2tg6EI1
