Are my wife and I right to be annoyed by my mom shushing our baby?

My wife and I just finished two weeks with my family, and had a good time for the most part.My family lives one thousand miles away and doesn’t get to see us or our one-year-old very often, so you can imagine they were very excited to see the little guy. This made it all the more surprising when my mom started doing something neither of us expected: shushing or telling our baby to “quit being loud” numerous times when he was making baby squeals, crying for food, etc.I know a part of it could be that my family isn’t used to babies being around as he’s the first grandchild, but I still can’t help being irritated by the situation. Are we wrong to be irked by this, or is this a normal response? My wife’s family would never dream of telling our son to be quiet, as he’s only a baby, so I find the entire thing uncomfortable and upsetting. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2Cw77II
