I know this is probably not the typical question asked here, but as a non-parent I figured you guys would be way more knowledgable about this stuff than I am! I'm trying to research as much as possible about my mom's background, which has been tough given the limited amount of info we were able to get from the Catholic orphanage she lived at initially.According to the paperwork, she was born in January 1952. In March, just 2 months later, she was moved to a different foster home when her "foster mother became ill" and my mom was showing signs of malnourishment. I guess she was evaluated by a psychologist in early May of that year, who noted: "The foster mother stated that the baby was 'starved,' having had only formula up to six weeks ago. She has gained weight under a full diet and homogenized milk. Her knuckles were red from being chewed, attributed to hunger"Which led me here! I did a few google searches on formula/what babies are supposed to eat at 2 months, and I didn't find anything apart from formula/breast milk. So I'm confused about the note's indication that being fed "only formula" constitutes starvation. Am I missing something? I'm wondering if it's more likely that she was actually fed nothing or a limited amount of formula; the paperwork says that her original foster mom "grew ill" and that was why she was removed from her care. Not that this helps clarify much of anything, but the notes also say that my mom's birth mother "was in labor for two weeks" (?!) and the "baby was a normal baby at the time of birth but had a large lump on the back of her head which disappeared after 2 weeks." Then it's noted that her head "tilted to the right" consistently from ~4 weeks to the time of the evaluation (16 weeks). She has been half-deaf her whole life; assuming but not sure if the two are related?Anyway, any insights from you knowledgable parents would be much appreciated :) via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2tBFFbR
