Pediatrician friend can't stop belittling the parents he sees. Really getting on my nerves.

Best friend from childhood is a pediatrician (just out of residency though.) He's been assigned to a hospital in a low-income area of our city.My friend has no children. Yet he's constantly harping on about parents that let kids younger than 2 watch television (the horror!) and how "terrible" they are for neglecting to give them a proper head start. He thinks it's tragic the number of parents that don't talk to their kids, the number that don't know screen time is bad, the number that don't read to their kids....."But surely most parents know that talking/reading is beneficial", I ask. He claims that most don't realize/care but the doctors in his practice very rarely bother to bring it up unless it's clear that the child is speech delayed. Well how were they supposed to know??? When I bring up that most parents just need a break and a handshake, I'm accused of disregarding peer reviewed scientific research.Just a rant I suppose. I find my childless friends judgmental attitude wearying. But I've not spent much time around low income parents, so I'm not really aware of all the parenting mistakes he's dealing with. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2gR2X7F
