10 year old daughter is interested in playing football. Husband is against it. Any advice?

Long time lurker and I finally decided to create an account for this question.I have two kids. A ten year old daughter and a four year old son. My husband played college football and coaches the high school football team. He often takes the kids up to the school to watch in on practices and we go to every game throughout the season. Football is a big part of our lives. My daughter has always been a bit of a tomboy and enjoys playing sports. Our town has fall and spring youth football leagues and our daughter recently started asking if she could play during the spring. I am fine with her playing, but my husband is against it. He thinks she is too small and too fragile to play. I say that we should leave that up to the coaches. If they don't want her on the field, then they can sit her on the bench. I talked to my daughter about this and she understands that she may not get a ton of playing time, she is completely fine with that. The problem I have with this is that I know my husband would allow our son to play. He often talks about our son playing when he gets a little bit bigger and older, but he wants our daughter to stick to flag football. My husband isn't sexist, but this double standard seems ridiculously unfair. I could see his point if he were against his kids playing football in general, but that isn't the case here. I don't want to go behind my husband's back and sign her up, but she really wants to play. Should I continue trying to get him on board or just tell my daughter that dad says no? I'm just concerned that she will be resentful in 2-3 years or so when my husband signs our son up for tackle football if I let my husband win on this one.By the way, we know about the risk associated with playing football. My husband played in college and coaches. That isn't a foreign concept to us, so I would appreciate it if you didn't give lectures as to why football is dangerous. Thanks. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2gEpY9K
