My (newly) 3 yr old snuck out of bed, grabbed his new dry erase marker and colored EVERYWHERE. How do I discipline this?

So while we were watching a movie after my son had been put down to sleep my kid snuck out of bed, opened his new dry erase markers I had put up high on my dresser and colored everywhere! I came to bed and found my pillowcases and sheets covered, the master bathroom covered, random lines on walls, floors and doors meandering back to his room where I eventually found him - covered head to toe in dry erase marker, sleeping on dry erase marker covered sheets next to his dry erase marker covered nightstand, clutching a dry erase marker. He knows that's not ok. He repeats the mantra "only color on paper" that I've drilled into him. And just tonight we were reading a book that had an illustration of a little girl out of bed and he told me "oh no! She's out of bed! No getting out of bed." So he knows both acts were completely wrong.Anyway, how should I handle this in the morning? Immediate timeout after he wakes up followed by helping clean before breakfast? Is he old enough to respond to delayed punishment like this? What about losing access to his dry erase board? Is he old enough for that type of punishment? He turned 3 last week. Is there something else you'd suggest instead? via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/2i7fiSn
