Hey Reddit, I'm looking for some insight from other parents who have kids with SPD, ADD, or both.My son is 6, and just finished kindergarten. We live in the US.Since he was 18 months old, he's been receiving various therapies for delays. It all started when I was advised to contact early intervention when we wasn't yet walking at 18 months, and wasn't speaking many words. He started walking between setting the appointments and them coming out, and started with speech therapy. He did that for 3 years til he tested out. He also had PT from ages 3-4, and OT from ages 3-5. I had him evaluated when he was 4 at a developmental paediatric place, and they told me he was not on the spectrum, and possibly had sensory processing disorder but was never officially diagnosed. All of his OT was done with his therapist under the assumption that's what he had, and it's what it seemed like it was to his therapist. He always had trouble focusing on tasks, but he's a really smart kid. Did well in pre school and in pre K, and went into kindergarten having already learned the entirety of the kindergarten curriculum academically. I would also like to add here, I haven't been drilling academics into him or anything. We just worked on them 5-10 minutes a day, and he picked up on everything really quickly. I taught him long addition in a matter of 20 minutes course of a week. He's already able to do some multiplication, division, ect. He's reading. But the problem started in kindergarten. His teacher was nearly at her wits end, because he just could not focus. He was being disruptive in the class room and goofing off...so much so that it even started to bother the other kids. He lost some friends too. I moved one town over with 6 weeks of school left and kindergarten was half day in the new district. His teacher suggested we switch his school for the last 6 weeks since academically he was fine and may do a bit better with the shorter day.I got his report card on Tuesday and was kind of floored. Not only did he have quite low marks in his focus ect, but when they tested his math and reading ability it was basically 50% meets standards and 50% almost meets standards...even though I know 100% he is exceeding those standards...which just goes to show his focus is so much of an issue he isn't able to even fully demonstrate what he knows. His doctor left a year ago, so we have a new one. I feel like medication might be the only next option here, but don't want to come across like I'm pushing it. It wouldn't normally be my first go to...but he's had therapy for years, we still do the things we were taught at home, I've been working on focus issues at home and with his teachers...and he's getting frustrated with himself lately that he can't focus on tasks. I'm ignorant of any other possibilities to try before trying medication. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated! via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/28RLW4N
