Polarized parenting views regarding natural and commercial products & practices seems very counterproductive. Isn't there any middle ground?

I've been lurking here for a while and as a parent who is surrounded by lots of non-parents I'm not submerged in parenting discussions as most probably are.One thing that's really, REALLY, REALLY making me upset is the amount of shame parents put on other parents who think differently than they do. I understand how not vaccinating is a hot topic, I'm not talking about that. What I'm talking about is the use of natural and organic or functional dietary practices. Why are people so excited to jump all over parents who question weather or not something is safe or best for their child? Why do people care if someone uses zinc oxide cream instead of banana boat sun block? Why is it so wrong to question large brands and ingredients? Is a little bit of anti-establishment really so bad? There is so much hostility. I don't get it. I know I don't want to be judged for spending 16 bucks on baby lotion or for buying a happy meal when im on a road trip.
