Do you let your kids make their own clothing choices with the chance they may be bullied, or steer them toward better choices?

My 7 year old son loves looking good. He has a ridiculously cute haircut and is obsessed with it looking good. I took him to get a few pairs of shorts and some shirts last week and he chose button up collar shirts. Yesterday my SO said that our son wanted to wear a tie to school. My SO told him he couldn't, because he thinks our son will be bullied for it. I want our son to be comfortable with who he is and wear what he wants to wear.Have you had this experience? What'd you do? I think kids will bully kids no matter what they're wearing or doing and if it's because my son is wearing a tie, then they can fuck right off.
