Discord stole my family, and I am betting that I'm not the only one. My child joined a cult that formed on Discord. They met them when they were 16, and the leader of this group drove down not long after their 18th birthday, and drove away with them. I know this only because they left their phone behind, reset to factory but easily restored from icloud, and I found the discord messages going back two years. This person used grooming techniques to get into my child's head, learn personal details, create emotional dependence, and then systematically destroyed their relationships with their family with the intention of convincing them that they had no choice but to run away. We took the chat logs to the FBI and were told that, if we had only caught this before they turned 18, this would have been actionable.Reading more on Discord, I discovered that this whole group of people were able to coordinate their actions in secret on their own Discord server. Because of Discord, it is incredibly easy to create spaces without which these dangerous actions would have been far more difficult or impossible. I contacted Discord itself about this, but was stonewalled. They are not taking this kind of behavior seriously at all.I am sure there are others who have had their lives destroyed because of Discord, and may not even know it. I am hoping to find others. I can't create a community yet as I haven't the karma, and since I'm not a marketer I'm not interested in spending the time 'karma farming'. I do want to connect with others who have had a similar experience, and so here I begin. If you've had an experience with Discord that tore your family apart, please post here. You aren't alone. via /r/Parenting https://ift.tt/2NUAw75
