Gossip about letting a 12 y.o try a moutful of wine has now escalated into threats of child abuse reports

Context: Holiday party with family, and friends of family, decent amount of people there overall. My daughter was simply curious, because she saw everyone drinking it around her. So she asked me what it was - I told her, and she timidly asked to try some. Lol she took a bigger sip, and the face showed it, she spit it out immediately, and exact words says that shit was nasty mom. Now mind you she never ever cusses.. in front of me at least, so I let it slide, because tbh it was a funny situation, we talked about it after the party, with a few other things along the lines of; seeing other people do it and having the impulse to try it is fine, but you should feel safe around the people your with or be in safe environments. That was that. Now long story short, some conservative gossiping old heads at the party were watching, and spun it into this whole thing about how letting my child try alcohol is child abuse!! They got my parents on board, and a few others. Now they feel i'm unfit and wish to file a report on me, they already might have... At this point im furious, like who tf are you. I would never ever hurt my baby. I feel she is mature enough to understand, especially because i feel we're so upfront with each other. What can I do!? Talking hasn't helped.. via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2V8iDUh
