Baby monitors- on or off?

Husband and I have an ongoing dispute: the baby monitor. He claims its the responsibility of whoever is putting the child down to make sure the monitor is turned on after the adult comes downstairs. I operate under the assumption that the monitor is always on.note: he turns off the baby monitor when I put the kid to bed, because he doesn't want to her her crying as I get her changed and swaddled. He never tells me he turns it off, just assumes I will check if its on when I get downstairs. This had led to several episodes where instead of hearing her when she's just started to fuss (and easier to calm/get back to sleep), I hear her when she is full on crying and harder to get back down.2nd note: when I first discovered he was turning off the monitor, he said it was bc he heard the tv and it drove him mad. Understood, and I now read on my tablet while nursing rather then watching tv. Now tonight he tells me he turns it off the minute I go upstairs so he doesn't hear her cry.Parents of reddit: what's your take? via /r/Parenting http://bit.ly/2T7Ur2l
