How do you raise a child with no future?

(This is a long rant as much as it is anything)As parents we are supposed to prepare our children to grow up and be functional adults. But how do you raise a child that has no hope of that ever happening?Today my daughter (2) was diagnosed with Autism. She is categorized as "moderate to severe". On top of this, she also has Apraxia and has extra difficulty speaking. The world is a terrible place full of terrible people, and its our job as parents to lie to our children and tell them everything will be okay. And for the most part, it is - for normal kids. But what do you do with a kid who you know from the start won't be going to college? May not even graduate high school? Who probably won't be able to hold a job, even at minimum wage? How do you prepare a child to be alone for their whole life because no one will want to be their friend or (when they are older) partner? How do you raise a child who, if we are all being honest, would have been better off had she not been born? Her college savings are now going to be redirected into doctor bills and occupational/speech therapy. I had all these hopes of sharing things with her when she was older - going places, doing things. Now that's all gone. We're just going to be coping, living one day at a time, in a constant struggle. Until one day when both of are gone and then, I don't even know. I guess she'll be institutionalized somewhere?I know others here have children w/ autism. How do you do it? What do you do?Just... fuck. via /r/Parenting http://ift.tt/29Qcp2Z
